About Me

My story is probably familiar to many, I decided to buy a home last year, and I picked the home I liked the best with best location, nearby amenities and all sorts of other intangibles that come with house hunting. I put a high priority on finding a location close to my godson and his family in Lafayette.  I have become an avid gardener starting many of my vegetable and flower plants from seed over the winter and spring and giving away extra plants to friends and family.

After moving here in 2008, the more I learned about
Lafayette, the more I fell in love with where I live and became interested in being involved.  I hope to inspire other Lafayette residents to think about where they are spending their money and to spend locally whenever possible.  I feel that Lafayette’s size gives us a greater ability to come together as a community.

Born and raised in Frederick, Maryland, I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania where I earned my Bachelor’s degree in German Language and Literature and played Division I softball.  I worked in DC after graduation, and moved from Maryland to Colorado in 1999, spending 3 years in Vail working and snowboarding before moving to start my job with USA Rugby, the national governing body for all rugby in the United States.

I am currently the Director of Membership Relations for USA Rugby. I have helped increase USA Rugby’s membership by 33% since taking over the membership department, which manages the national membership of 83,000 individual and 2,100 club members.

My experience is in expanding women's collegiate rugby within the NCAA, event management, non-profit governance and working with volunteers.  In 2009, I was elected to the Board of the Boulder Business & Professional Women (BPW) as treasurer, and I am a graduate of The White House Project’s “Go Run” Training and the Center for Progressive Leadership’s inaugural “Progressive Candidate Training.”

I was inspired to run for City Council after becoming involved with Boulder BPW and learning about the disparity in the number of men & women in elected office in the US. The US ranks 72nd in the world (and falling) in percentage of women in elected office.

Only about 17% of the US House and Senate are women, according to the Center for American Women in Politics. We can be proud that Colorado ranks 1st in the nation for women in state legislature, with 39% women in the state House & Senate, but we still have further to go.

As a long-time athlete participating in organized sports such as softball, basketball, soccer, and later, rugby, I am passionate about ensuring adequate recreational and athletic opportunities to youth in schools and communities and this has been a large part of my work with USA Rugby.

As a leader, I will never compromise what is right for what is easy.  I am very demanding of myself and I believe in holding people accountable for their performance, including our elected officials.  I strongly believe in personal freedom and choice, and I believe all people should have opportunities to achieve to their highest desired potential.  I know not everyone wants to be directly involved in politics, which makes it that much more important for those that are elected to be representatives for people from all areas of our community.
